Dental Implants

June 27th, 2011

This lady below had worn an upper acrylic Denture for many many years.  She thought that she was too young to be wearing dentures and hated the fact that she had to remove the dentures at night time and in order to clean them and her surrounding teeth.

She came to see us to discuss what alternatives she had to her denture and after a comprehensive assessment and discussing the patient’s needs in-depth we decided to place 2 upper front implants holding 4 upper front teeth as well as a third implant on the upper left pre-molar region to close the gap on the left hand side.

She is delighted with the result, is far more confident with her smile  and no longer has to remove a denture from her mouth as she has a permanent life long fixture just like what her original teeth were!

Dental Implants at Creative Smiles

June 23rd, 2011

Today, losing a tooth or indeed several doesn’t mean that you have to either live with the gap or wear dentures. Advancements within the field of dentistry are giving patients more choice. Dental implants offer a safe, permanent and aesthetically pleasing alternative to simply putting up with second best when it comes to one of your very best assets, your smile.

Dental implants at Creative Smiles are rapidly growing in popularity, and with good reason. They are strong and permanent replacements for missing teeth, and many of our patients are now choosing to have these instead of bridges or dentures.

Four out of five people in the UK are unhappy with the way they smile, and 20% of us are so unhappy that we hide our teeth when being photographed.

Once in position, an implant can hold a single replacement tooth, a bridge or a denture with several replacement teeth. The real benefit is that they are virtually indistinguishable from your own teeth, which means you can enjoy an attractive and natural looking smile once more.

What is a dental implant?  Implants are essentially replacements for the natural roots of teeth which are used to hold a replacement tooth or bridge in place. The benefit of using implants is that they don’t rely on neighbouring teeth for support, they are permanent and stable.

If you are missing one or more teeth and wish to eat your favourite foods, increase your chewing ability and improve your appearance, speech and self confidence then you could be a candidate for having dental implants placed here at Creative Smiles.

Implants are a fantastic solution to tooth loss because they look and feel like natural teeth and neither you nor anyone else should be aware of the implant.

Benefits:

Here are some of the reasons patients of Creative Smiles go for dental implants:

They look natural – dental implants look and feel good and with modern technology, dentists can achieve results that look exactly like natural teeth.

Comfort – a dental implant is such a good tooth replacement, that you don’t even remember it’s not real.

Durability – dental implants offer a permanent solution to tooth loss. They bond to the jaw bone and become part of it, this connection is as strong as a natural tooth root. The completed dental implant is as strong and durable as a natural tooth.

Improved oral health - since treatment with dental implants involves placing implants in areas where there are no teeth and does not affect your other healthy teeth, more of your own teeth are left intact, improving your long-term oral health. Additionally, by placing implants in areas with no teeth, you stimulate the bone area again and prevent long term bone loss in that area. (When a tooth is lost, the bone is not stimulated and begins to shrink away).

Improved hygiene - Individual implants allow easier access between teeth, enabling everyday normal dental care, and in that way improve oral hygiene.

So why not contact one of our Creative Smiles Team today to arrange an assessment ? Or alternativley if you would like to know more call and speak to our Patient Care Co-ordinator Leanne Hynes who would be delighted to help!

Dental Facelifts

June 15th, 2011

Having Cosmetic Dentistry can have a positive effect on your overall facial  profile. The case photos below show this very well.

This middle aged lady’s face (as you can clearly see from the before photograph) has collapsed.  This is due to resorption of bone and wear of her old lower upper and lower dentures.  This results in skin folds which have a very ageing effect.

We used Dental Implants here to stabilise a new set of upper and lower Dentures.  By doing this it allowed us to increase the height of the ladys dentures to remove the skin folds and rejuvinate her face restoring it to what it would have been in her early twenties!!

Implant Case

April 1st, 2011

We wanted to share an interesting Implant Case at Creative Smiles with you this week!

A middle aged Gentleman came to see us as he had fractured his upper right central incisor tooth which happened to be holding in a bridge!  Obviously he was quite concerned as he did not want to be going around with no front teeth!

The upper right central incisor tooth ended up being removed due to a large root fracture.  Bearing in mind this was holding on a Bridge, the patient was now missing both an upper right central and lateral incisor tooth!

We started off this case by extracting the upper right central incisor tooth and an immediate temporary acrylic denture was fitted on the same day so that the Gentleman would have his 2 front teeth back as a temporary measure until ready for a more permanent solution.  This also gave our  patient time to make an informed decision and get the best treatment to suit his individual needs.

The permanent choices for this patient were as follows:

1.  To have an accurately Fitting Titanium Denture Fitted to replace all upper missing teeth.

2.  Placement and Restoration of 2 Dental Implants to replace the upper right central and lateral incisor teeth.

Our Patient decided to go with Option 2.  We carried out implant surgery on both the 2 missing anterior teeth and also on 2 missing pre-molar teeth that he had lost some time ago.  The patent’s treatment has been very successful!

Advantages of Dental Implants Over Dentures or a Bridge:

Every way you look at it, Dental Implants are a better solution to the problem of missing teeth.

Esthetic:  Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth!  Since Dental implants integrate into the structure of your bone, they prevent the bone loss and gum recession that often accompany bridgework and dentures.  No one will ever know that you have a replacement tooth!

Tooth Saving:  Dental implants don’t sacrifice the quality of your adjacent teeth like a bridge does because neighbouring teeth are not altered to support the implant.  More of your own teeth are left untouched, a significant long-term benefit to your oral health!

Confidence:  Dental Implants will allow you to once again speak and eat with comfort and confidence!  They are secure and offer freedom from the clicks and wobbles of dentures.   You can once again smile with Confidence!

Reliable:  The sucess rate of Dental Implants is highly predictable.  They are considered an excellent option for tooth replacement.
