Replacement Porcelain Restorations

October 26th, 2011

This young lady from Lisburn came to see us as she was unhappy with her smile.

She disliked her two central teeth that had been crowned a long time ago.  She was also concerned with the old fillings on her front lateral incisors and the ‘pink’ stain on her upper right lateral incisor tooth.

After discussing all the available options with our patient, we decided to initially whiten the teeth using our Zoom 2 AP Power Whitening System and replace both the central incisor teeth with new high quality crowns and Porcelain Veneers to restore the lateral incisors back to life!

As you can see from the photographs the results were fantastic!  Another happy and more confident patient after visiting Creative Smiles!

Porcelain Veneers

October 10th, 2011

Veneers are thin layers of porcelain that provide a new front surface for your teeth. Here at Creative Smiles we use porcelain material for our veneers, the best option when it comes to such treatment. Veneers offer great versatility and are able to be used for an assortment of tooth problems: they can be used to close tooth gaps, elongate small or twisted teeth, or improve the colour of discoloured or darkened teeth. Their strength and appearance is similar to that of natural teeth and they are a great option if you want to have a smile that will last.

We treated this young lady below with four front porcelain veneers as she did not like the alignment, shape or colour of her front teeth and a brace was not an option for her due to her line of work and the time frame that she needed as she was very soon to be a bridesmaid at her Sisters Wedding.

We started by whitening the teeth so that the new porcelain would be matched exactly to her new whiter tooth colour.  We used the art of ‘Smile Design’ to get the veneers made exactly to our and our patient’s specifications so that they would compliment our patient to the highest standard possible.

The Veneers were prepared on day one and the permanent veneers then placed 3 weeks later.  Our patient is delighted with the result and with her job based around the public she is much more confident to smile!  She also was very happy to show off her new smile with her Sister on her wedding day!

Dental Implants

June 27th, 2011

This lady below had worn an upper acrylic Denture for many many years.  She thought that she was too young to be wearing dentures and hated the fact that she had to remove the dentures at night time and in order to clean them and her surrounding teeth.

She came to see us to discuss what alternatives she had to her denture and after a comprehensive assessment and discussing the patient’s needs in-depth we decided to place 2 upper front implants holding 4 upper front teeth as well as a third implant on the upper left pre-molar region to close the gap on the left hand side.

She is delighted with the result, is far more confident with her smile  and no longer has to remove a denture from her mouth as she has a permanent life long fixture just like what her original teeth were!

Smile Rejuvenation

May 16th, 2011

This patient presented to Creative Smiles very concerned with the colour deterioration of his front tooth and the gaps between the front 4 Teeth.  He also felt that his 2 front teeth were too long.

We decided along with this patient that we would take a conservative approach and used a Porcelain Veneer to rejuvenate the discoloured front tooth.  We then used a Cosmetic Bonding Technique to improve the shape and close the gaps between the front 4 teeth.

Both a very conservative and cost effective approach to rejuvenate this patients smile.  He was delighted!

Implant Case

April 1st, 2011

We wanted to share an interesting Implant Case at Creative Smiles with you this week!

A middle aged Gentleman came to see us as he had fractured his upper right central incisor tooth which happened to be holding in a bridge!  Obviously he was quite concerned as he did not want to be going around with no front teeth!

The upper right central incisor tooth ended up being removed due to a large root fracture.  Bearing in mind this was holding on a Bridge, the patient was now missing both an upper right central and lateral incisor tooth!

We started off this case by extracting the upper right central incisor tooth and an immediate temporary acrylic denture was fitted on the same day so that the Gentleman would have his 2 front teeth back as a temporary measure until ready for a more permanent solution.  This also gave our  patient time to make an informed decision and get the best treatment to suit his individual needs.

The permanent choices for this patient were as follows:

1.  To have an accurately Fitting Titanium Denture Fitted to replace all upper missing teeth.

2.  Placement and Restoration of 2 Dental Implants to replace the upper right central and lateral incisor teeth.

Our Patient decided to go with Option 2.  We carried out implant surgery on both the 2 missing anterior teeth and also on 2 missing pre-molar teeth that he had lost some time ago.  The patent’s treatment has been very successful!

Advantages of Dental Implants Over Dentures or a Bridge:

Every way you look at it, Dental Implants are a better solution to the problem of missing teeth.

Esthetic:  Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth!  Since Dental implants integrate into the structure of your bone, they prevent the bone loss and gum recession that often accompany bridgework and dentures.  No one will ever know that you have a replacement tooth!

Tooth Saving:  Dental implants don’t sacrifice the quality of your adjacent teeth like a bridge does because neighbouring teeth are not altered to support the implant.  More of your own teeth are left untouched, a significant long-term benefit to your oral health!

Confidence:  Dental Implants will allow you to once again speak and eat with comfort and confidence!  They are secure and offer freedom from the clicks and wobbles of dentures.   You can once again smile with Confidence!

Reliable:  The sucess rate of Dental Implants is highly predictable.  They are considered an excellent option for tooth replacement.

An Interesting Trauma Case at Creative Smiles!

Here you will see from the photographs an interesting Trauma Case treated with both Orthodontics and a combination of High Quality Porcelain Restorations!

This Gentleman came to Creative Smiles after Sustaining Trauma to his Upper Front Teeth.
Due to the extent of the Trauma his Upper Left Lateral Incisor Tooth (right side on photograph, 2nd tooth along) had to be removed leaving a gap.  His other front teeth were broken and discoloured due to nerve damage resulting from the trauma also.  This patient had protruding teeth to begin with which he was constantly aware therefore self conscious of so instead of just restoring the broken teeth resulting from the trauma, we suggested to take this prime opportunity to treat the protruding teeth and utilise the space produced by the missing lateral incisor tooth in order to achieve this!
The Front Six Teeth were retracted using an upper removable brace which brought them onto their natural position.
Whitening was carried out after alignment.
The case was then finished using a Combination of  High Quality Porcelain Crowns, Veneers and Bridgework to restore the discoloured and poorly shaped anterior teeth!
